Young Disciples is a special time of spiritual preparation for young people in the 7-11 age range, coming after baptism and before confirmation.
Studies show that these Big Kid years are significant in establishing a firm faith basis. Parents also play a big role in the home in nurturing their children’s spiritual development. Young Disciples is a program that equips parents for that role in the home while offering Big Kids a time of focused spiritual development.
How it works:
Parent(s) and child(ren) come together for this program. Parents meet with the Pastor for teaching, conversation and sharing of resources on raising children in the faith.
The children meet for their own sessions, touching on a range of topics such as prayer, scripture, the sacraments, membership in the Church, service in the community, service in the home and so on. The style of these sessions will be active learning, with only minimal paper and pencil work.
In between sessions, children will work on badges – some individual work, some with their parents – on faith-related topics.
At the end of the program, the Bishop will receive the children as Young Disciples in the Church, and will offer an episcopal blessing of the children and their parents.
Time commitment: There are a total of 5 seventy-five minute sessions.
